teamLab Forest Fukuoka: Tickets, Tips & What to Expect (April 2026)
TeamLab Forest Fukuoka is the most interactive teamLab venue in Japan - and the city surrounding it is one of the country's most underrated. Here's everything you need to know.
Fukuoka doesn't get as much tourist attention as Tokyo or Osaka, which is exactly what makes it worth your time. The food is arguably better, the pace is calmer, and teamLab Forest sits inside a complex that also has a baseball stadium, a rooftop ride, and a view of Hakata Bay. It's a proper day out rather than a single attraction stop.
We spent two weeks in Fukuoka in 2023 and it's one of the Japanese cities we keep recommending people put on their itinerary. TeamLab Forest is part of why. Here's the full guide for April 2026 visitors.

Getting There: Boss E.ZO Fukuoka
TeamLab Forest is on the 5th floor of Boss E.ZO Fukuoka, the entertainment complex built on the grounds of Mizuho PayPay Dome in Chuo-ku. The nearest station is Tojinmachi on the Fukuoka Municipal Subway Kuko Line - about 10 minutes walk to the dome. From Hakata Station, a taxi takes roughly 15 minutes. The complex is unmissable; the dome is enormous.
What Makes teamLab Forest Different
TeamLab Forest has a distinctive feature that sets it apart from the other venues: the app-based interaction in the Catch and Collect Forest section. Visitors download the teamLab app on their phone and use it to scan, catch, and collect digital animals that appear throughout the forest. You can learn about each animal, release ones you've collected, and interact with the ecosystem in real time. For kids who are into creatures, identification, and collecting (which describes most children), this section is a genuine hit.
The second section, Forest of Motion, is the more conventional teamLab experience - large-scale reactive installations that respond to your body. The concept here is "perceiving the world with the body" rather than just watching it. You're actively creating the artwork rather than observing it.
The two sections complement each other well: Catch and Collect is interactive and educational, Forest of Motion is immersive and sensory. Together they make for a more varied visit than some of the single-concept venues.

Our Fukuoka First Impressions
We documented our arrival and first day in Fukuoka - it gives a good sense of the city and why it's worth building into a Japan trip:

Fukuoka has a completely different energy to Tokyo or Osaka. Smaller, more walkable, less overwhelming. If you've done the big cities and want a Japanese city that feels like it belongs to the people who live there rather than the people visiting, Fukuoka is it. TeamLab Forest fits naturally into that - it's less mobbed than Planets, more relaxed, and the surrounding complex has enough else going on that you can make a full day of it.
Tips for Visiting teamLab Forest Fukuoka
- Download the teamLab app before you arrive. The Catch and Collect Forest section requires it and in-venue wifi can be slow. Get the app loaded at your accommodation.
- This one is brilliant for kids. The app-based animal catching is genuinely educational and interactive. Ages 5 and up will get a lot out of it.
- Less crowded than Tokyo venues. This is a genuine advantage. You can take your time, revisit sections, and actually breathe.
- Combine it with the rest of Boss E.ZO. The complex has other attractions including a rooftop dome-top walk and an amusement floor. Makes for a full day out without leaving the building.
- No cancellation once purchased. Book when your plans are confirmed.
Staying Connected in Fukuoka
You'll need data for the teamLab app to work properly - it's not just a gimmick, it's integral to the Catch and Collect section. Make sure you have a working Japan eSIM. We use Holafly with code ADAMANDLINDS for 5% off - unlimited data, activates on arrival, no SIM swap needed. For longer trips, Holafly Plans from $49.90/month includes Always On backup data that keeps you covered even between destinations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to download an app for teamLab Forest Fukuoka?
Yes, for the Catch and Collect Forest section. Download the teamLab app before your visit. The Forest of Motion section works without it.
How long does teamLab Forest Fukuoka take?
Allow 60 to 90 minutes for the teamLab experience itself. If you explore the rest of the Boss E.ZO complex, budget a full half-day.
Is teamLab Forest Fukuoka good for young children?
It is one of the best teamLab venues for children, specifically because of the app-based interactive section. The animal-catching concept works very well for ages 5 and up.
How do I get to teamLab Forest Fukuoka from Hakata Station?
Take the subway Kuko Line to Tojinmachi Station (about 5 minutes) then walk 10 minutes to Boss E.ZO, or take a taxi directly from Hakata (around 15 minutes).
Is Fukuoka worth visiting for teamLab alone?
TeamLab Forest is a strong reason to visit but Fukuoka is worth the trip on its own merits. The food scene (ramen, mentaiko, hakata gyoza) is exceptional, the city is relaxed and walkable, and it makes an excellent stop on a Japan itinerary that includes Osaka and Tokyo.
