Best eSIM for Spain: Holafly Plans, Pricing and Coverage

Spain runs on its own clock. Lunch lands at two, dinner starts at nine, and half the country decamps to the coast in August. We spent a few days in Barcelona in the summer of 2021, back before we travelled full time, and Adam backpacked Madrid, Barcelona and San Sebastián years earlier than that. What has changed since is how we handle data. We now land in a country already online, and for Spain that means a Holafly eSIM sorted before the flight.

Networks and coverage in Spain

The Spain eSIM runs on Orange, Movistar, Vodafone España and Yoigo, confirmed on Holafly's Spain page on August 2, 2026. That combination covers the cities, the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, the islands including the Canaries, and the main tourist corridors on 4G and LTE, with 5G where the local network has built it out. Where any Spanish network thins out is the same place this one does: deep in rural Castile, high in the Pyrenees, and the emptier stretches of Extremadura. For city travel and the coast it is not something most people run into.

Spain eSIM or the Europe eSIM?

This is the decision that matters, and as of August 2, 2026 the two plans no longer cost the same. The Spain eSIM is cheaper for a Spain-only trip: $64.50 for 30 days against $73.90 for the Europe plan, with the gap opening up from the 5-day tier onward. The Europe eSIM costs more because it covers 33 countries instead of one. The 3-day tier is the only one priced identically at $11.90.

The Europe eSIM is the one we have actually used, running it from Italy up through the Baltics without buying a new plan at any border. If your trip is Spain and Portugal, or Spain and the south of France, take the Europe plan. If you are staying inside Spain the whole time, the Spain eSIM saves you a few dollars for the same coverage.

How to set up your Holafly eSIM for Spain

Spain eSIM or a local Spanish SIM

A local SIM from Orange, Movistar or Vodafone will look cheaper on the shelf. Then you factor in finding a store that is open, the passport they need to register it, the Spanish-only paperwork, and a number you throw away at the airport on the way out. Is your phone compatible?

Our honest take

We will not pretend we stress-tested the Spain eSIM across Andalusia, because we have not. Our Spain time was Barcelona, and it predated the way we travel now.
