We spent May, June and the first week of July 2026 based in Da Nang with our three daughters, and we have been in and out of Vietnam since 2022. This page is the version we would give a friend: what it costs, which network it actually uses, where the signal held up, and the two situations where we would tell you to buy something else instead.

How much does a Holafly eSIM for Vietnam cost?

Holafly sells Vietnam by the day, from 1 to 90, and the daily rate falls as the plan gets longer. The table below is Holafly's list price alongside what you pay after the code. We pulled these figures from the live Vietnam product page on August 11, 2026 rather than reusing an older screenshot.

The odd step is the 5-day plan, which works out fractionally more per day than either the 3-day or the 7-day. If your trip lands at five nights, price the 7-day before you buy, because the difference is about six dollars for two extra days of cover.

Which network does the Holafly Vietnam eSIM use?

Holafly's Vietnam eSIM connects to GPC Vinaphone, the VNPT network, and supports 5G where it exists alongside 4G and LTE. That matters more than it sounds, because Vietnam's three big carriers do not cover the country identically. Vinaphone is strong through the coastal cities and the corridor between them, which is where most visitors actually spend their time.

Holafly is direct on their own product page about the limits: coverage is excellent in urban areas, and weaker or unstable in deserts, mountains and jungle. Our experience in central Vietnam matches that almost exactly, and the section below is where we saw the line.

Where it worked in Vietnam, and where it did not

Da Nang was the easy part. Across two months in an apartment near My Khe, the eSIM handled the kids' morning schoolwork over hotspot, Grab bookings, and video uploads without becoming a topic of conversation, which is the highest compliment we can pay a data plan. Hoi An was the same story, including the beach bars south of the old town where we assumed the signal would thin out and it did not.

The exception was the mountain road up to Ba Na Hills. On the drive up on June 24 our data dropped out in the same places everyone else's did, and it stayed patchy until the cable car station. That is not a Holafly fault so much as a Vietnam terrain fact, because the eSIM rides a local network and a weak-signal valley stays a weak-signal valley whichever carrier you are on.

Up at the summit it recovered completely. We went back the next day for Harper's seventh birthday and stood on the Golden Bridge shoulder to shoulder with a few thousand other people at four in the afternoon, and photos still uploaded. Dense tourist crowds are usually where a network folds, so that one surprised us in a good way.

Is the Vietnam eSIM or Holafly Plans better value?

This is the decision that actually costs people money, and the break-even is closer than you would think. A 30-day Vietnam eSIM is $70.21 after our code. A Holafly Plans Unlimited subscription is $64.90 a month, or about $58.41 after the 10% the code takes off Plans, and it covers 160+ destinations rather than one.

So for any single month in Vietnam, the subscription is already about twelve dollars cheaper than the destination eSIM, and it keeps working when you fly out. Across our three months in Da Nang that gap came to roughly $35, and we did not have to buy anything again when we moved on to Thailand.

The destination eSIM still wins on two counts. It has no subscription to remember to cancel, and for anything under about two weeks it costs less in absolute terms even though the per-day rate is higher. When a Vietnamese SIM card is the better buy

We will not pretend otherwise: for a stay of a month or more in one place, a local Vietnamese SIM beats any travel eSIM on price, and we have bought one ourselves for exactly that reason. Tourist top-ups from Viettel, Vinaphone and Mobifone run roughly 60,000 to 250,000 VND, about $2 to $8, for 15 or 30 days of data, and the more expensive tiers include unlimited.

The trade is time and paperwork. You buy the physical SIM in person with your passport, you top it up separately, and you spend part of your first afternoon on it instead of being online in the taxi. Our pattern in Da Nang has been to land on the eSIM, get through the first few days without hunting for a shop, and then decide whether the stay is long enough to be worth switching. Anything under three weeks and we have never bothered.

How to set up a Holafly eSIM before you fly to Vietnam

What about the rest of Vietnam?

A Vietnam eSIM covers the whole country, so the same plan carries you from Hanoi to the Mekong without another purchase. If your itinerary crosses into Cambodia, Laos or Thailand, price the Asia regional eSIM against buying two or three country plans, because the regional version usually comes out ahead on a multi-stop route.

Ha Long Bay is the trip people ask about most, and it is the one place where we would set expectations lower. Out on the water among the karsts you are relying on towers on the mainland, and coverage there is not the same as coverage in Hanoi. We filmed our three-day cruise on an earlier trip, and it is still the clearest picture of what that itinerary is like with kids.

What else comes with it

The hotspot number is the one worth reading twice. It is a daily allowance rather than a pool, so you cannot save six days of tethering and spend it all on one long work session. For a family sharing one connection across tablets, that ceiling arrives faster than the marketing suggests, and it is the main reason we run the subscription instead.
